Product Overview
The South Bend SB1049F is a 13" x 30" gearhead metal lathe built for accurate turning, threading, and general machining in a compact, shop-friendly footprint. A 3 HP motor drives eight spindle speeds from 80 to 2000 RPM, while the 1.57" spindle bore, D1-5 camlock spindle, and MT#5 taper support a wide range of metalworking tasks.
This machine is equipped with a factory-installed Fagor 2-axis digital readout for clear carriage and cross slide positioning, helping improve precision and repeatability. Hardened, precision-ground Meehanite castings, a traditional 3 V-way bed, dependable electrical controls, and a circulating coolant system make it a strong choice for consistent day-to-day performance.
With 30" between centers, broad feed options, and inch threading from 2 to 72 TPI, this lathe is well suited for machinists, maintenance shops, toolrooms, and serious fabrication environments that need capability without moving to a larger machine.
