The South Bend SB1009 is a super precision metal lathe designed for accurate turning and digital threading in a compact collet-lathe format. It replaces a traditional threading gearbox with a microprocessor-controlled, servo-driven leadscrew, allowing the operator to enter the desired inch or metric thread pitch on the touchscreen and run a synchronized threading cycle.
Built for high accuracy and smooth performance, it features a hardened and ground spindle mounted on pre-loaded angular contact bearings, with extremely low spindle runout for fine-detail work. Infinitely variable spindle speed, independent variable feeds for the carriage and cross slide, and a 3 HP inverter-driven motor help deliver strong low-end torque and precise control across a wide range of machining tasks.
With an 11-inch swing over bed, 18-inch distance between centers, 5-C spindle nose, and speeds up to 4000 RPM, this machine is well suited for toolrooms, prototype work, precision threading, and small-part production. It is a strong fit for professional machinists and serious industrial users who need repeatable accuracy, digital convenience, and versatile threading capability.
